Job Description:

High Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer
 
A rapidly growing proprietary trading firm with three offices in Chicago, London, & New York City is seeking to add an HPC Engineer to an existing IT team to assist, maintain and progressively improve the existing compute environment and plan for future upgrades to the existing environment.  The ideal HPC Engineer should have a robust background in managing large high performance compute clusters running on Linux.  The HPC Engineer position interacts with all IT functional areas (e.g. architecture, design, network engineering, Helpdesk/Desktop support, application development and support).  The HPC Engineer will be someone who can troubleshoot technology related problems that might include job scheduling issues, Linux OS tuning, storage performance, and hardware issues.  The successful High Performance Computer Engineer must be highly self-motivated, excel at multitasking, and comfortable working in a demanding, state of the art environment.
 
Responsibilities:
 
-Responsible for designing, deploying and supporting cutting edge High-Performance compute and storage resources to support the workflows of quantitative traders.
-Monitor and troubleshoot cluster performance issues, including the installation or development of tools deemed necessary to solve the issue.
-Work as part of a team to architect, deploy, and support the next generation of compute and storage platforms.
-Assist developers in adapting code for use in a cluster environment.
-Assist users with assessing and migrating to cloud-based computer resources.
-Develop tools to automate manual tasks.
-Manage and provision storage for use by cluster users.
 
Required Skills:
 
-Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.  Must be able to interact with management, vendors and external parties and should be able to effectively communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner.
-Highly organized, self-motivated, able to multi-task, able to work independently as well as a team player.
-Analytical and detail orientated.
 
Required Experience:
 
-Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year university or comparable work experience.
-5+ years’ experience in Linux Administration/Engineering.
-Experience performance tuning Linux operating systems.
-Solid knowledge of scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby).
-Experience administering HPC scheduling systems (Hadoop, LSF, SLURM, Mesos, etc.).
-Fundamental knowledge of technologies across virtualization, storage, networking and security
-Experience managing storage systems.
-Expert troubleshooting skills.
-Must have experience in 24/7 environments.
